This incredibly beautiful breed was created during the Ottoman Empire times in the Şehzade palaces of Manisa.

The name “Hünkari” (Royal breed) also comes from this origin. At this time this breed was only allowed to be kept in the palace but, the local people had captured some run-away birds and secretly raised them in the near by caves.

First members of this breed were smuggled out of Turkey in late 17th century to arrive in England. From here they spread to Europe, where they were developed to today's qualities.

Today they come in two types :

Blondinette (Body marking)

Satinette (Wing & tail marking)

There is still big interest for this breed in Manisa and Izmir but, unfortunately it has become extinct in it's original form in Turkey. However, in recent years some breeders have brought in pure breed stock birds from outside of the country to try to keep this tradition alive.
